Under the GDPR, personal data subjects may, where applicable, exercise rights such as access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection to processing and withdrawal of consent.
The exercise of these rights may be subject to identity verification, assessment of the legitimacy of the request and compliance with legal or contractual obligations that justify the retention or processing of data.
The data subject also has the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority, namely the Portuguese Data Protection Authority (CNPD), when they consider that the processing of their data does not comply with applicable legislation.
The Data Protection Officer, also referred to as DPO, acts as a contact point for privacy and data protection matters, where their appointment is applicable.
Their functions include informing and advising the organisation on data protection obligations, monitoring compliance, cooperating with the supervisory authority and supporting communication with data subjects.
